Photographing Landscapes: The Essence of a Place

Photographing the landscape and while traveling allows us to examine our relationship with the places in which we visit or in which we live.

It is an active expression of our desire to remember, to revisit, and to tell our personal experiences.

It is a great way to respond to how we feel and to what we see in the world around us.

In this photography course, we will:

  • Understand lenses
  • Exposure
  • Lighting
  • Preparing for the outdoors
  • Composition
  • Hyperfocal Distance

We will discuss landscapes as a vital element for self-expression or as a work of art will help deepen our understanding of photography. We will be discussing the works of An-My Le, Richard Misrach, Stephen Shore, and many more.

The students will participate in weekly assignments, practical exercises with the camera, discussions and critiques. We will also be working on creating a landscape or travel photo essay at the end of the course.
