Photography Day Trip: National Cherry Blossom Celebration

The sun is shining, the days are getting longer and warmer, trees are blooming…  After a long winter, there’s nothing better than getting outside and enjoying the gifts of spring.  Join us in celebrating the start of the new season as we travel to Washington, D.C. for the National Cherry Blossom Festival—a festive event honoring the friendly relationship between the United States and Japan, as well as the changing season.

On this two-day trip, we will focus on developing memorable landscape compositions.  You will learn how to use light and weather to your advantage, how to compose a striking landscape photo, how to capture the spirit of a place, and more.  Upon our arrival in Washington, D.C. at noon on Saturday, we will photograph the cherry trees and Blossom Kite Festival near the Washington Monument.  Throughout the afternoon, your instructor will advise you about your process and techniques.  Later, we will walk to the Tidal Basin to photograph the Jefferson Memorial at sunset.  After a productive day of photography, you will be welcome to join your PhotoUno instructors and classmates at an optional group dinner.

You know the old saying, the early bird gets the worm?  Well, this adage holds true for photography, too!  We will rise bright and early on Sunday morning to photograph the sunrise along the National Mall, developing our understanding of transitional light and how it can impact our pictures.  (Please note that we understand that not everyone gets up with the robins, so this segment of our trip will be optional—but we strongly encourage you to make the most of your trip.)  After our sunrise session, we will regroup for a mid-morning brunch to review our photographs and discuss our experiences.   At noon, we will board our van and head back for home, sweet home—NYC.

*Please note that hotel accommodations are not included in the price. Everyone is responsible for making his or her own reservations. We will be staying at Capitol Hill Hotel. Please be aware that the date is subject to change depending on the cherry blossoms blooming. it would be advised that you book a hotel room with a flexible cancellation policy.
